This contribution discusses all passages in Pindar’s victory odes where the speaker uses the first person plural. The use of this form is often justified by the context. Therefore the first person plural cannot be replaced by the singular without changing the meaning of the statement; on the other hand we can not deduce the mode of performance from the use of this form. However, we could adduce the mode of performance for explanation, where the use of the plural is not justified by the context.
